One consequence of signing up for a lot of loyalty programs is the amount of email you get. The downside is that you have to spend half your day deleting emails. But the upside is that they’ll send you emails for some pretty good deals. It’s worth those occasional deals to handle a full mailbox.
G’day Mate! AA Bonus Miles to Australia
American is celebrating its expanded relationship with Qantas by offering bonus miles on flights to Australia. Fly up to three times and earn up to 90,000 bonus miles on AA-marketed flights to Sydney. The miles are based on the fare class you fly, so if you’re simply buying the cheapest fare available, you’ll only earn 5,000 miles. To get the full bonus, you’ll have to fly paid first or business. Ouch. If I were already planning on booking a trip down under, however, this promo would be enough to sway my choice of carrier. Just be sure to register before booking. The deal is good for flights between February 1 and May 31, 2016.
Rocketmiles or Pointshound
You can always get airline miles for hotel stays, but it’s rare that they’ll actually be worth much. Still, the bonus offers come every so often. The best way to do it is to book through Rocketmiles or Pointshound, two options that will reward you with miles for your stay. You can usually get between a few thousand and several thousand miles, depending on current promotions, such as the extra 3,000 miles from AA now being offered. And they’re not kidding when they say you can get up to 10,000 miles per night. The downside is that you are not entitled to points or elite benefits from the hotel. I’ve heard of cases where people got lucky, but it’s unlikely.
If you’re looking for a last minute deal, there are several sites out there that you can use. HotelTonight is as good as any of them, but they’re making it a little better by offering 1,000 JetBlue points for your first booking of $100 or more before January 31. Use code JETBLUE when making the reservation and read all the details first. Again, you’ll surrender your elite benefits and possibly points, but you’ll get a good deal.
