Promotions for Your Perusal

It’s promotion season again and there are actually a few good ones out there. Here’s a quick glance:

Virgin America: Double Points

Virgin America is a program that I don’t talk about often, but it’s actually a pretty good one and the staff on the planes do an excellent job. Normally, you get five VA Elevate points per dollar spent but, register for the promo and fly by February 29 to get double base points. This is a “can’t lose” situation: If you register and don’t fly them, you lose nothing. If you do fly, you pick up extra points.

JetBlue: Take 3

JetBlue has several bonuses that it runs throughout the year which give you extra TrueBlue points on how many roundtrip flights you take. One of them is the High 5 promotions: Fly five roundtrips in a calendar year and get 5,000 points. JetBlue has renamed and rejiggered the bonus in your favor: Now, it’s called the Take 3 bonus and only requires three roundtrips for those same 5,000 points. And that’s why I like these guys. They give away lots of points.

Marriott MegaBonus

And then there’s Marriott. Owner of the most boring promotion in the land, MegaBonus, you receive a certain number of points for completing a given number of stays. It tends to vary per person. This quarter, they mixed it up a bit, giving you a base target up front, followed by a second (and possibly third) offer once you complete the first. The problem, however, is this: While most people have no trouble registering, many of us get an error message when trying to access the registration page. So I’d love to show you what I got offered, but I can’t. I think it’s going to take a call to Marriott.
