Hmm, a rainy Saturday is always a good day to do a little digging. Let’s see what’s out there.
- Rocketmiles, an online travel agent that gives you frequent flyer points for booking hotel rooms through them, is offering a nice special on Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards points. Book a hotel and get 1,000-5,000 Rapid Rewards points per night. In addition, if you are a new member, you’ll get a bonus 3,000 points. Note that you may not receive hotel points if you earn miles through Rocketmiles. You can check it out here. For more on Rocketmiles, see my previous post here.
- Hilton announced its winter promotion, a double miles promo. Stay at a Hilton between now and January 31, 2015 and, starting on your second stay, you’ll earn double points. Remember to check the list of non-participating hotels.
- Marriott is dropping its elite status requirement for free WiFi and now giving it to anyone who is a member of their points program and books through Marriott’s website. Gold and Platinum members will still get enhanced speed for free, though, making me think that the basic speed isn’t so hot. But it’s free.
- And some sad news regarding the Boston-NYC shuttle: Delta is moving it from New York’s Marine Air Terminal to Terminal C. Normally, a terminal change would not merit a post, but the MAT is special. It is an entirely separate building that handles only shuttle flights. Security is quick and the terminal is never over-crowded. Terminal C at La Guardia just got a facelift and Delta is promising to keep the amenities (including expedited security, dedicated check-in and free coffee & newspapers), but there’s no way it will be as simple as the MAT. Why would Delta do this? The answer dates back to 2012, when La Guardia connected terminals C and D. By moving the shuttle passengers to terminal C, they can connect Boston passengers through New York to other cities.
