Before we get started on some truly horrendous news from Marriott, here are some Mark Zuckerberg memes to make you laugh. Enjoy them before scrolling down.
Changes Coming to Status Tiers?
Marriott and Starwood aren’t supposed to combine their programs until next year, but there was a leak regarding the combination of their elite status tiers. We know nothing for sure, but most of the speculation centers around these topics:
- It appears that there will be five tiers, with breakpoints at 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 nights. The first two will be silver and gold, the latter three some version of gold.
- There will be some sort of revenue requirement for certain levels of status, but we don’t know which ones. That is a potentially devastating blow to those who earn top-tier status through credit cards and booking meetings.
- There are varying rumors about which levels will receive late checkout, breakfast, upgrades and lounge access.
I’ll be away for most of next week, so this blog will probably be among the last to post the final information. Just putting it out there.
And Now, The Truly Bad News…
There’s simply no way to break this one easily, so I’ll just come out and say it: Marriott is moving to built in plastic dispensers for its amenities (Hat tip: VFTW) at full-service hotels. It’s bad enough that I may eventually have to start buying my own toiletries, but what makes it truly devastating is that they are replacing the Thann products with the inferior Paul Mitchell.
I’ve always been a Bulgari kind of guy when it comes to the amenities, but the orange and tangerine soap bars have also become a favorite. Prices are starting to spike on eBay, so I’ll have to ask housekeeping for extra next time I’m in a Marriott. Sad!
