Weather permitting, I’ll be traveling for the next week or so. Posts will be fewer and further between.
As credit card companies get more desperate for more high value customers, they’re raising the perks that they are offering. American Express is currently doing so with Delta miles.
60,000 Points, No First Year Fee
It’s rare that you get a “free” card and 60,000 miles, but American Express is making it pretty easy. The offer runs through April 11, so you have some time. The Gold card doesn’t have the high-end features that the Platinum or Reserve card do, but it’s an excellent choice if you just want to pick up a few miles.
- Spend $2,000 within the first three months and they’ll give you 50,000 Delta SkyMiles
- Spend another $1,000 within the first six months and you’ll get another 10,000 miles
- Make a Delta purchase within three months and you’ll get a $50 statement credit
- The best part: They’ve picked up on what other banks are doing and are waiving your fee for the first year. After that, it’s $95 per year.
As I mentioned above, the card doesn’t offer the biggest benefits, but it does get you a free first checked bag, priority boarding and the ability to pay with miles (which is a lousy deal, since each mile only gets you a penny of value). You’ll also be able to waive the required ticket spend for elite status by spending $25,000 on the card in a year (except for Diamond, where you’ll need to spend $250,000).
