News on Cuba; The JetBlue Card

Cuba

A few days ago, President Obama announced that he would be visiting Cuba, the first president in 88 years to do so.

In terms of travel, this trip is a big deal. While he has been normalizing relations with the country for several months now, actually visiting is a very clear sign that it is okay for others to do so, as well.

If you want to see Cuba, the best way to do it is on a cruise. Cruise lines should have itineraries in Cuban ports by the first quarter of next year, if not the last quarter of this year, and the biggest issue right now is pier capacity, given how many ships are going to want to access the ports. You will, of course, be able to fly to the island, but hotel space, particularly high-end rooms, is limited. With a cruise, you’ll have your room set.

JetBlue’s New Credit Card

I ordered my JetBlue Plus Card and look forward to putting it to good use. I’m getting more excited about this card for general purposes, although it is unlikely to become my primary card for anything except restaurants, where you would get two points per dollar. Two things to keep in mind:

The free card, which is quite good in its own right, is a limited-time only offer. It might last a week, it might last six months. But for those who want to earn a few miles and don’t want to pay, now is as good a time as any to get it.

JetBlue is one of the few airlines to offer “pooling.” You and your family can create the equivalent of a “master account” by combining your points selecting a head of household who manages them. That way, you will never be left with “orphan miles” in an account that you can’t use because you have too few to do anything with them.
