Today’s post is dedicated to Pittsburgh Steelers fans*. We’ll see you in January.
For those of you doing a little last-minute shopping, remember to check out the Shopping & Travel Rebates section for ideas on how to pick up extra miles or dollars. Truthfully, those sites are good year-round and will get you money back on travel, as well as shopping, for using a single link. Check it out, it’s worth your time.
Also, remember that JetBlue and Amazon have partnered to offer you points for shopping. What makes this partnership so valuable is that you can get JetBlue points on any Amazon purchase, not just particular categories.
Another request: If you are applying for a new credit card, please consider doing so through the Credit Cards for Charity links. All proceeds that the site earns go to charity, so you are doing well by doing good. This year’s proceeds are once again going to Charity Navigator four-star organization Cradles to Crayons.
WestJet, the second-largest Canadian carrier, may be the biggest airline that you’ve ever heard of. A low-cost carrier in the mold of Southwest and JetBlue, WestJet originated in (not surprisingly) western Canada and has spread east.
A few years ago, the airline launched service over the Atlantic, but still lacked a true global presence. That’s changing, as WestJet has introduced “Member Exclusives” on international carriers, which allow you to book travel using your WestJet rewards dollars on partner carriers.
And some sad news. CSX railway’s CEO Hunter Harrison has passed away at age 73. The controversial leader was nothing short of a legend in the railroad industry, having successfully turned around several rails that seemed next-to-impossible to fix. I only had a chance to listen to him speak once, but it was easy to see what a passion he had for the industry. If you have some spare time, it’s worth reading a bit about him. He’s a fascinating individual.
*Last night, the Patriots received the kind of luck that only happens to the Patriots. Had it been the Red Sox, the game would have ended on a Roethlisberger touchdown after the ball scooted through a defenseman’s legs.
